The three zones
Dakar is the capital, with most accommodation and services. Diamniadio is a new town east of Dakar that hosts the opening ceremony stadium and the equestrian centre. Saly is a seaside resort on the Petite Côte used for beach and water events.
These zones are connected by roads and partly by a toll motorway. The times below are orders of magnitude and vary with time of day, weather, roadworks and security arrangements.
Dakar – Diamniadio
Diamniadio is roughly 30 to 35 km from central Dakar. Outside rush hour allow about 30 to 45 minutes; at peak times the journey can double. On ceremony days, leave early.
Dakar – Saly
Saly is roughly 80 to 100 km from Dakar depending on the starting point. Allow around 1h30 to 2h30 depending on traffic and motorway use. Remember to plan for the return journey too.
King Car Services offers Dakar–Saly transfers with a driver; prices are published on the transfers page when set.
AIBD airport to Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly
Blaise Diagne International Airport is near Diamniadio, roughly 45 to 60 km from central Dakar, so it is relatively well placed for Diamniadio and Saly. Having your vehicle delivered at the airport avoids searching for a taxi with luggage.
Choosing your departure time
To limit waiting, leave early in the morning or mid-day rather than at peak hours. In the evening traffic towards Dakar can be heavy: allow a later return rather than being stuck.
